Happy Birthday, Fairouz…
Morning time everywhere in this country means only one thing, Fairouz… the phenomenal voice that still makes me cry like a baby when I hear [Bukra enta w jaye -
u cry when u see ur feelings vividly in front of u… delicate, naked and sharp… that’s what she’s done in each and every song…
When she sings for Damascus, Beirut or Jerusalem… she condenses history into a simple melody…
Today’s her 70th birthday…. Happy Birthday…
I said somewhere, that the only time I really feel what Jerusalem means to everyone, Palestinians, Israelis, Syrians, Jordanians, Muslems, Christians, Jews… to every human being.. is when I listen to Fairouz singing [Zahrat al-Madaen - زهرة المدائن]…
Beirut… the most complete melody for one place…
And Damascus… well…

Fairuz is simply the best..
she will/has gone down in history to join the ranks of Um Kulthoum, Abdel Wahab and others..
I can’t believe she’s that old now!

I agree with Omar, she is the best, and will be always the best.
NOthing bets more than hearing her in the morning, and for me, in all times.
