    I am a blogger from the Netherlands and I am moved by your comments (which I found via your note on Juan Cole’s weblog). Peace be with you!

  2. N=1 Says:

    The way things are now, you might as well ask everyone to write an apology to CNN as well..
    The debate in the Netherlands is more and more being captured by extremist people shouting the same extremist stuff they have been shouting for so long. Be it with a different excuse.

    The news only shows groups of people torching embassies and old deluded ranting clergymen. Blogs like these don’t make the news. 1 billion muslim people going on about their days normally is not news.

    So over here people are getting scared by the news, more than the facts. And the news knows that if people are scared enough, they will not touch that dial during commercials…

    And the extremists know that scared people will flock to them for protection.

    It seems like each person or organization that is in a position to cool things down all have their own reasons for not doing so. Overthere and overhere.
    Wherever each persons respective here or there may be.

    I believe that sites like yours and communication like this is the only way we can eventually make the noises of the extremists fade away.

    Thanks for speaking out!

    Here’s a greeting from Denmark:

    In Denmark, the extremists and xenophobes are, alas!, also setting the agenda, and the cartoons were part of that.

    But there’a another Denmark which does not buy the extreme right’s xenophobic and anti-Muslim nonsense.

    You’re doing a great job in spreading our view Yazan. Thanks for the link, and I plan on e-mailing the embassies. The more and more violent this situation gets, the more shame I feel. What a horrible representation of the Syrian/Arab/Muslims. Reading through the comments from the previous post, I realized how important to link fellow bloggers. So how about we make a post, with all links to all the blogs that share our view, and ask all Syrians to post it. That way we give a chance to every visitor to every blog to see the other point of view. let me know salaymeh (at) gmail.com

    @Omar,
    Thank u for you idea; I hope u guys do something like you’ve suggested. I’m a Syrian as well and I’m trying my best to spread the word here; people should know that we don’t accept such acts in our names!
    Thank you and thank u Yazan!

    n=1,
    Smart people shouldn’t believe everything they hear on the news.

    Why did you call yourself n=1?

  9. grippenn Says:

    What you do is very moving… Congratulations. My God be with you.

  10. Omar Says:

    @ Omar & Yazan
    if you google Syrian bloggers, we should all come up in the search.. just like the friends of Syria website..
    I think that it is good to set up a website that is links only (with a proper design of course), and we all link to it to make it pop first on google.

    I will see if I can get a domain name from my hosting company and do it. and then we will port our links there

  11. Yazan Says:

    @omar
    There is already a site for that, it’s only a bit raw and under construction but it lists all Syrian blogs…
    planet.syriamirror.net

    bas, what omar was talking about, is a “generic post” with links to all the articles by syrian bloggers that condemned this terrible action…
    and then we ask all Syrian bloggers to post this “generic” post
    ;)

    Thanx Abo alzooz and well said .
    Its very releafing to see more than 3 people share the same point of view about such hidious acts of violence and stupidity (and how about 12……)
