Pity a nation that despises a passion in its dream, yet submits in its awakening.
Pity the nation that raises not its voice save when it walks in a funeral, boasts not except among its ruins, and will rebel not save when its neck is laid between the sword and the block.
Pity the nation whose statesman is a fox, whose philosopher is a juggler, and whose art is the art of patching and mimicking.
Pity the nation that welcomes its new ruler with trumpeting, and farewells him with hooting, only to welcome another with trumpeting again.
Pity the nation whose sages are dumb with years and whose strong men are yet in the cradle.
Pity the nation divided into fragments, each fragment deeming itself a nation.
Pity us, Pity Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Egypt, Palestine… The Middle East. The World.

The point was that Hariri is now only a mockery, a charade they use to gather up people… The tribunal is there, there’s an investigation going, but dont make him a saint. I mean comon Abu takla, u know what am talking about…
Junblatt has the guts to actually praise someone like Khaddam. dont u think thats a slap in the face of every syrian who wrote for lebanon…
The post is filled with bitterness a lot of us syrians feel… a lot of syrians lost their lives over the lebanon issue among others, because they were against syria’s ivolvment.
Michel Kilo is still in jail because of the Damascus-Beirut declaration, but NO ONE in beirut raised a finger, Annahar is now closed off syrian opposition writers. Samir Kassir was the person who used to publish them, now it’s a far off land…
Abu takla, I still love the country, I stand right at the same spot when it comes to democracy and freedom for beirut and damascus. but I dont respect ur leaders. 14, 8 march alike, none of them is worth being called a leader.

Well that, I definitely understand.
The leaders though, are not the issue, and one should not mix the cause the people are after with the leaders that are speaking in their names just because they are still in power.
Fear that the tribunal will be hindered, for example, makes a lot of us join in the 14 March efforts to support the government although it is not the ideal government in a stable country. The alternative is Hizb and Aoun blocking everything we worked for in 2005. Day-to-day politics sucks, but the struggle must go on.
I am saying this although I know what you are talking about, and these are fears that haunt me, and the seculars among us as well.
