With Sake, nothing tastes better than Olives. But you would have to be a Levantine living in Japan to know that.

And, I thought we're among the few screwed up people on the planet. Wait till "they" read your post. "They" will quote you on how bad Japan is and the "haven" we live in.
I'm sure you got any idea about who "they" may be.
Thank you for the info.

You are back then, Yazan.
My last visit was way back but I remember jaywalking just for the heck;a little stupid, I admit, but I could not stand seeing all these disciplined people waiting for the right light.
Feel much more at home in Damascus !
A happy new year to you !

thinking about how screwed up Japan is is exhausting. Kudos for still having the strength to dredge things up.

The worst part is is that in the midst of a system that you'd think couldn't possibly work, you have an immense amount of efficiency and comfort. The trains run on time, the streets are clean, and the homeless are peripheral and don't trouble you with their problems. Its really hard to get anyone to care about things when the problems don't seem urgent.

I'm really just curious to see how all these things, especially in regards to the lack of legal immigration into a decreasing workforce, will play out

You have definitely opened my eyes regarding Japan through this and other posts over the past few years.

I was also surprised to learn that over 40% of marriages in Japan are arranged, and that an overwhelming number of couples report themselves to being unhappy with their marriage. The solution to which being a very high tech sex industry, serving Japanese men anonymously.

I sometimes feel sorry for my girlfriend for always criticizing Japan's state and quite possible future, and after seeing the links about the suggested Internet regulation I'm afraid she might just slap me at some point. AMAZING to see how Japan is digging its own cultural and international grave these days. Very hard to imagine what is going to happen to the country eventually. I'm beyond trying to guess.

Are we in a period of changes for the worse for Japan right now, or does it just seem like that?
