With Sake, nothing tastes better than Olives. But you would have to be a Levantine living in Japan to know that

I'd watched very few MJ music videos before the digital proliferation of pirated CDs. It was only Syrian Channel 2 that showed them (al qannat al thaneya). There was a cute presenter called Tara Kerokiyan or something like that. She used to read political news, sport news, talk about music and movies, and recieve requests and dedications for songs. Well, she was the one and only in Channel 2. I heard rumors she used to grind coffee too. Her mid-night show, one called "night whisper" or something like that, was a must before I went to bed.

Oh the 90s. Thanks for the wonderful reminder ya Yazan.

I would have never imagined reading about Michael Jackson and Hafez Assad in the same post, ever. But judging by the evidence, my dear Yazan, you do know how to write about those days!

Ya Yazan...
Your post strokes my heart so strongly.

I am sorry you had to face what you did as a child, I am sorry there are still who have to face to what did, and I am proud of that you are what you are.

Gray... gray... gray.... and very few colours here and there. Those are my memories from the 90s. Those eyes, big…huge…ugly on every corner are still there, different colours and different names but all under one slogan “The Big brother is watching you”!

I love your blog. As for this post it is so moving and somehow familiar I may not have had a dramatic childhood like you but something very familiar about it stings my heart do not have a clue what :)
keep it up
