Niqab

I don’t like it when an authority feels morally, or intellectually superior to the people it represents.

I don’t like it when my government tells me what and what not to wear.

Enough said.

Uhm… I agree but not totally.
Me too, I don’t like being annoyed about what wearing or not, especially by my government. But in some few cases our governments have the right to impose us not to wear something, and I think niqab is among this cases. Not because it is a religious symbol (I live in Italy and I hate all the mess made around that question by morons not understanding the difference between “secularity” and “atheism”) but because it covers the woman and makes her not visible. Now, I ignore what lies behind- why Syrian Government did that, but it makes sense, after all.

ps. I’m sorry to start with a critic. I adore you.

in my opinion, as a Syrian, this is the first true move from the government, against radical islamists. who are trying to make Damascus (and other Syrian cities) the Tura Bura of the middle east. you may argue that it’s “Individual Freedom”, but ….. “Is it?”

putting this this act as being right or wrong from the side of the government aside ….

we should know that the size of the religious people in Syria is nothing but enormous …. this act -side by side with another secular supprission acts – gave them the feeling that they are targeted …. should anyone wonder now why the demonstrations are going out of mosques ??? no I think …..

we shouldn’t only look to what is right …. but also to what is wise … and there is a big difference …. because the latter means acting on a list of priorities … and the niqab is not the ultimate danger Syria is facing now …. that’s what I think !!!!
